2021 creative goals

Last year's goals went pretty well so I've decided to keep on with the similar strategy. This year I have two big yearly goals which are sort of like my words of the year.

My main word of the year is 'play' and my second word/s of the year is 'be more visible'. From those two big goals I've come up with a list of smaller creative goals to fuel my year. I also have a few personal goals, things like make my own pasta from scratch, but we'll focus on the creative goals today!

Play

Throughout the first part of last year I felt a little restricted, and frankly had a bit of artist block. During my AprilCreateDaily challenge that feeling changed and I really enjoyed experimenting with different mediums and styles and challenging myself to make things that weren't my usual go to designs. Since then I've fallen back into the same routines, albeit with some watercolour work added in. This year I've made it one of my big goals of the year to play, to create, to experiment and explore outside of my comfort zone.

It took me so long to release my first shop collection, and then almost a year to release my second. This year I want to release at least two new collections full of new creations. I also bought a sketchbook near the end of last year that I'd like to fill with sketches and paintings and random experiments - and maybe a second sketchbook too! I want to make a linocut and experiment printing it and layering it, I have all the equipment it's just been sitting in a drawer for the longest time. This year is the year I do it.

I also want to learn more animation and animate my illustrations more as that's something I want to do a lot more in the future. I also want to experiment and try and print my own stickers so I can release shorter runs with more options for everyone. I also want to possibly do some more study, which is pretty exciting in itself.

Be more visible

I also would like to work on my audience. You lovely people who follow me and make this all worthwhile. I want to work on inviting more of you into our little club and also make the stay all that more enjoyable for the team of you that are already here.

So with that respect, I want to keep up with what I'm doing with Instagram and the newsletter, although I would like to post more on Instagram but baby steps. I do however want to start making more video type posts, so more Reel type content for Instagram and maybe TikTok to more diversify my content (@sofillyletters - follow me!).

I also want to work on increasing the newsletter subscriber list, I want to have more of you on there so I can afford to spend more time on it and nurture it into something even greater than it is now. I'm not 100% on what that will look like right now, and that's okay.

I also would like to try and table at more markets this year, my goal is two but if I can do more then that's even better. This way I have more of a chance to bring myself and my products to the locals here in Wellington!

But that's it! I'm only one person so I can't do everything I want to do in a year but it's a pretty good list that I'm really excited to get stuck into! I've got my content plan for the first quarter of the year locked in so now I just have to get to work! Let me know if you've made any similar goals, maybe we can work together to help each other stay accountable.

What are your goals for this year?
